About Us

Berkley Town Library

Berkley Town Library was a community initiative to replace a 1960s portacabin structure that had previously been serving as the library.

Our clients, Berkley Town Council and Gloucestershire County council, commissioned us to design a building that provided a lending library, reference and computer facilities, a reading space, an entertainment space for drama, poetry and small performances, a children's area, staff facilities, administrative offices and an outdoor performance space. The whole building needed to have disabled access and be linked to four affordable rental flats.

Our design incorporated open, mixed used spaces, using a minimalist modern style, passiv haus design and locally sourced timber. We wanted to create a space that was both functional and beautiful for community members to spend time in, and spaces that allowed for both privacy and interaction.

Our scheme was open an accessible to the community whilst maintaining the privacy of the residential flats.
