Stoke Orchard Community Centre was built to provide community facilities for a large new housing scheme near Tewksbury.
Our open plan design included a shop, meeting rooms, offices, toilets, a kitchen, storage and a main hall to sports council requirements. We designed a building that had net zero energy use, and was one of the first zero carbon community buildings in the country. We achieved this by adding 802m of photovoltaic solar panels to the roof and using passiv haus design to create a highly insulated structure and glass facade with brize soliel for shade.
The building has no electricity or gas bills, and has functioned well to meet diverse needs across the community. It has gone on to win several awards.
